What is ABA?

Kids in Preschool

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a way of helping people, particularly those with autism, to learn new skills and improve their behavior. It's a type of therapy that looks at how a person behaves and finds ways to change that behavior in a positive way. It is based on the idea that all behaviors have a function or purpose, by understanding why a certain behavior happens, an ABA therapist can help to teach new, more appropriate behaviors in its place. The ABA therapist will work closely with the client, observing their behavior and setting up small, achievable goals that will help them to learn and grow. The therapist will then use different techniques, such as positive reinforcement, to teach new skills and encourage positive behaviors. As the person makes progress, the therapist will adjust the goals and plan accordingly to continue to help them to make progress. ABA therapy is an evidence-based practice, which means that it has been proven to be effective through scientific research and study. It can be used for a wide range of skills, including communication, social skills, self-care, academic skills and adaptive living skills. It can be provided in one-on-one settings, small group settings or in natural environments like in the home, school or community.

NMK ABA Therapy was founded on the belief that quality services is a necessity to provide effective treatment to clients and their families but it involves an accumulation of trained technicians, transparent conversations and motivation towards the same goal. Values are an integral part of any organization and are critical for the success of an ABA practice.

NOBLE

Having a noble quality in an ABA practice is important because it speaks to the ethical and compassionate nature of the practice. ABA is a field that deals with individuals who have autism and related disorders, and it is crucial that the individuals providing the services have a genuine desire to help and improve the lives of their clients. A noble quality is an indication of this commitment, and it is also closely aligned with the core values of the field of ABA, which is to provide evidence-based, individualized, and compassionate services to those in need.

AMBITIOUS

Being ambitious means setting challenging goals and striving to achieve them. In an ABA practice, this could mean setting ambitious targets for client progress and working hard to reach them. Having ambitious targets can help to drive progress and improvement, and ultimately lead to better outcomes for clients.

MEANINGFUL

Being meaningful in an ABA practice means that the practitioner is providing services that have a real, positive impact on clients and their families. It's about making a difference in people's lives, rather than just going through the motions.

ASPIRING

An aspiring practitioner is always looking for ways to improve and grow, both as a professional and for the practice as a whole. This may involve developing new skills, learning new techniques or seeking new knowledge, or seeking to implement innovative ideas in the practice that can improve client outcomes.

COMMITMENT

ABA treatment requires a positive and collaborative relationship between the practitioner and the client and their family.
